Last updated: version 2.0 (class pilot). Written in plain English on purpose.
Brain Quest is run as a small pilot for one school class by a parent. Questions or requests can be sent to: [ADD YOUR CONTACT EMAIL HERE BEFORE SHARING].
Because the app stores progress only on your own device, the person running the pilot does not receive, see or hold your child's learning data.
| What | Why | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Your agreement (that you are 18 or over and have read this notice), the date, and a scrambled (hashed) version of your PIN | To make sure a grown-up set the app up, and to keep the Grown-ups area closed to children | This device only |
| A child's nickname and picture (chosen from fixed lists) | So each child can find their own progress | This device only |
| Scores, stars, badges, which questions were right or wrong, and minutes played each day (the last week) | To show progress, choose questions that help, and apply the daily time limit you set | This device only |
Never collected: real names, photos, addresses, school names, email addresses, phone numbers, location, voice recordings, contacts or any device identifiers.
Our legal reason for storing this on the device is that you ask for it by setting up the app and agreeing in the first step. You can withdraw that agreement at any time in the Grown-ups area, which erases everything.
Brain Quest saves your child's progress in the browser's own storage on the device (not in cookies, and it is not read by any website other than Brain Quest). This is needed for the app to do what you asked: remember progress. A copy of the app's files is also stored so it works without internet. Clearing the browser's site data removes everything.
When the web page and its files are downloaded, the company that hosts the website ([ADD YOUR HOSTING PROVIDER, e.g. Hostinger]) may keep ordinary technical server logs, such as the internet address (IP address) of the device and the time, as any website host does. These logs do not contain your child's nickname or scores. See the host's own privacy policy for how long it keeps them.
Until you delete it. Remove a child, or choose "Withdraw consent and erase everything" in the Grown-ups area, and it is gone straight away. Progress is also lost if the browser's site data is cleared or the device is reset.
If Brain Quest ever adds anything that handles more information (for example, accounts so children can play together), we will ask for your agreement again first, update this notice, and keep anything optional switched off until you choose.
